(2022) The Lost City

The Lost City is a thing of beauty, and it demonstrates that classical romantic comedies are still alive and well.

Story

Sandy is Loretta Sage, a romance author who lost all spark and motivation after her husband died. She phones her latest book in and publicly announces she’s quitting, while managing to insult her book cover model (Alan) in the process.

Everyone is furious at her, but their anger is very short-lived because she gets kidnapped by Daniel Radcliffe, a rich douche who wants Sandy to help him find the artifact from her book. She tries to tell him no, but he insists using chloroform.

Daniel is absolutely perfect in this role. Who would have guessed that playing creepy weirdos who belong in a cupboard under the stairs is what he’d be best at?

After she wakes up, Daniel gives her a parchment with some symbols to translate as it holds the key to the location of the tomb with the Crown of Fire, the artifact he’s after.

Before she manages to figure things out, Alan hires a friend he met in his yoga classes to help and they somewhat rescue her. And of course, he’s a former Navy SEAL CIA Brad Pitt type. To be clear: he is LITERALLY played by Brad Pitt. As we all know, a person can’t be more of a Brad Pitt type than actually being Brad Pitt. That’s just proper science.

So they go after her, a LOT of tombraideresque action and comedy ensues, and the movie is a happy ending. Of course it is, it’s a romantic comedy, not Hellraiser.

I’m stopping here on purpose because there are some hilarious twists and turns in there. This movie is not afraid to do stuff and have fun while doing stuff. GO WATCH IT.

Final Verdict

Well written, good jokes, likeable characters, great scenery, and just enough changes to the formula to keep things interesting. Dulcius Ex Asperis!
