(2002) Two Weeks Notice
Depicted: Behind the scenes - Sandra explaining to Hugh how insufferable he is.
This movie is a paint-by-numbers romantic comedy, except for one thing - Hugh Grant somehow manages to be the most despicable person in a movie that features Donald Trump. This throws shade on the playful “will they won’t they” plot because you really start rooting for the “pls no” option.
Story
There’s no complexity here. He was a boy, she was a girl. He is a rich, womanizing, manchild looking for a new lawyer who will also be a mommy replacement (who he gets to have sex with). She is a lawyer trying to do the right thing. So, George Hugh Grant manipulates her into working for him, a lot of crazy stuff happens, and they develop feelings for one another. Happy ending.
Of course, George changes in the process and is now a completely different man. Yuck.
I might have glossed over some plot points, but this is mostly it. The highlights of the movie are definitely all the scenes with Lucy (Sandra) telling George what an idiot he is. It happens a lot.
Deleted Scenes
IMDB lists deleted scenes from this movie as a separate entry, so I went to find them. Nothing special, they cut out the actual wedding scene, which is great because nobody wants to see that.
Final Verdict
As usual, Sandra shines in this movie. Her character is two-dimensional, but she manages to bring Lucy to life and save this movie from being a Hughe catastrophe.
They did try to sell the idea of her being unattractive until THE TRANSFORMATION, which is now a staple of all Sandra Bullock movies. 🤷 This would be the worst 10/10 so far, but Love Potion No. 9 exists.
